Tlacololeros en Coaxtlahuacan, 1994 This is a rain propitiating dance during which the participants take turns cracking whips over the other's padded arm. Every so often, despite the thick masks, heavy straw hats and burlap sacks that protect them, a dancer might feel pain from the lash of the whip. This pain is offered as the dancer's personal propitiation to the rain god.
